European Union continues logistical support for Mali

Since the creation in mid January of the EU Clearing House mechanism, 12 EU Member States have offered logistical support to the African-led International Support Mission to Mali (AFISMA) conducted by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and to the Malian Armed Forces. The Clearing House was established by the European External Action Service (EEAS) within the EU Military Staff to ensure coordination between requests for support on one hand, and offers by EU Member States and other partners, on the other hand. Several EU Member States have continued to support the airlift of AFISMA personnel and equipment to Mali, mainly using C-160 and C-130 aircraft. This is illustrated by continuing German support in the region, airlifting (C-160) much needed supplies, equipment and vehicles - from Kaduna, Nigeria, to Bamako, Mali, between mid March and Tuesday 26 March. This logistical equipment is for the benefit of Nigerian troops participating in AFISMA. Airlifts continue, as required.
